My Design Experience

So, where did my passion for design come from?

It took me some time to realize that everything around me - nature patterns, architecture, art, food - embodies design. It's the composition of various elements that together create an engaging piece of observation, touching people in different ways. Colors, shapes, light, shadows, words, symbols, humans are connected to design at every turn.

In the past five years, since moving to Berlin, I've encountered many situations and jobs that deepened my curiosity about design in all its many possibilities. Living with five designers during the pandemic profoundly impacted me. Observing their work - creating, interviewing, testing - exposed me to countless prototypes and interactions, sparking my interest.

Photography has also taught me about design through different compositions, frames, and tools - the same eye shapes a blank canvas in a digital screen.

Funny thing: I realized that during my first internship at a newspaper in 2014, I was already working with design, but the terminology wasn't known or used in Brazil back then. I assisted a product team in finding digital solutions to counter declining sales and subscriptions as printed newspapers were not selling anymore and the online presence was growing. Our solution: a subscription-based discount club offering users savings at restaurants and services, benefiting everyone involved. I participated in interviews, data analysis, and solutions ideation. Unfortunately, I have no documentation from this Case Study, but was interesting to connect this dot when thinking about my journey.

Methodologies & ways of working

I follow specific methodologies and work intuitively and effectively within them. I enjoy sketching and drawing to help my thinking process. I like to create automations, shortcuts, templates, and components - anything that helps me maintain consistency and allows for fast, low-pressure execution.

Although my mind often jumps to solutions, I concentrate on the problem that needs solving. One of my favorite aspects of this field is interviewing people to understand their behaviors, cultural impacts, and empathize with their journeys and needs. Returning later with a solution for that user provides me with a strong sense of fulfillment.
